I have read most of her books. I liked the idea of daily meditations as it is one of my ongoing goals to create peace and joy at the start of my days.

I picked up this book with hopes that the book would help foster this goal. It also contained quo Why I read this book: It also contained quotes at the beginning of each meditation that helped the reader better focus and grasp the overall messages in the daily meditations.

I chose to read each meditation as soon as I woke up every morning to get my days started. I have a problem with people making claims with no justification or ability to demonstrate their claims. I also have an issue with people giving me something, sticking a label on it and expecting me to take it. I favor the actions of proof and evidence. I approach all things in life with these needs, even reading.

However, none of the meditations were specific to people of color. All people need faith, rest, patience, calmness, etc. Make them demonstrate the validation of their claims. She was not successful in doing so with this book. I embraced the messages and started my days off on the right foot. I would recommend the book to all people, not just people of color. It did offer some great positivity and enhanced focal points to live by.

Before even starting, I loved the idea of this book so much. After a few weeks of reading a meditation at the start of every morning, I appreciated it even more. I'd love to find something similar for and years beyond! Apr 21, Kristina Moss rated it it was amazing Shelves: Daily Mediations for People of Color" by Iyanla Vanzant is a very powerful book for all but great especially for individuals of African American descent in particular.

The author articulates inspirational words by uniquely using the strong writing craft of voice and tone in her piece of work.

For example, one of her daily devotional states: They have come to assist you through a difficulty, to provide you with guidance and support, to aid you physically, emotionally, or spiritually.

They may seem like a godsend, and they are. They are there for the reason you need them to be.

Then, without any wrongdoing on your part or at an inconvenient time, this person will say or do something to bring the relationship to an end. Sometimes they die. Sometimes they walk away. Sometimes they act up or out and force you to take a stand. What we must realize is that our need has been met, our desire fulfilled; their work is done. The prayer you sent up has been answered and it is now time to move on.

Her voice and tone throughout each page is so distinct, yet exemplifies nothing but strength and reassurance for all her readers. In this lesson, students will be exposed to mentor texts with strong voice. I would use this text as an example to introduce my students to the element of voice.

I would have students recognize what strong voice sounds like in literature, and have them practice implement writing craft in their own work. Feb 03, Janet rated it it was amazing Shelves: I bought this in at Rileys Childrens Hospital where my baby now 19 was healed of a reflux kidney.

God bless Dr RInk and everyone who cared for her over the years and assisted in her surgery and recovery. Iyanla Vanzant has much wisdom to share from both personal experience as well as dedicated research and study. Don't let the sub title fool you. It is a great read for all races. I read this so much; still today, that the cover curls and edges are tattered. It has nothing to do with a race.

Furthermore, if I am "acting black" I am surely not going to be called for any parts: He is a Leader in his community, an educator all over the country Hate, bitterness and racism come in all colors!!! I have long forgiven this person. I started her book "In the Meantime" years ago.

I have been reading the book and sharing the wisdom for years. It has daily meditative words that explicdly get right to the point of human self defeating mind sets. She provides insight into our human ego and how to override ourselves and take control of any situation.

Her words have saved the lives of many people. I read those words in substance abuse health education on a daily basis as a registered nurse to veterans Acts of faith is an excellent teaching and self evaluation, reflective tool.

I read those words in substance abuse health education on a daily basis as a registered nurse to veterans working to rebuild their lives after war and trying to fit back in society. Whatever my lesson was, the word for that day somehow always applied to the health or social education.

I went through four books before I retired and as the veterans saw the book become worn with pages falling out, they would buy me a new one to keep hearing Iyanla's words of healing wisdom. The words did not have meaning only for people of color, but for everyone. Human needs are the same. Still read daily words for myself. I recommend this book for everyone.
