What this book is not is a book about jQuery application architecture; while you will walk away from this book with a fantastic grasp of what jQuery can do, you might walk away with questions about how to most effectively pull it all together. That's not to say that you won't be able to build jQuery applications; the rich internet applications RIA that I build currently operate at the levels covered in this book.
And, one thing that I thought was brilliant was that every single one of his code samples is available online at JSBin. Thats a nice comment; as a tech reviewer, I appreciate, and I'm sure Cody does, too.
Thanks for the great review. My pleasure. Great to meet you at the conference.
I told Glen that you used his Marketo form and he told me how you guys knew each other. Were all attendees supposed to get a copy? I was at the conference and didn't see anything about it. In your attendee packet, you should have gotten a business-card-looking paper with a discount code on it.
As far as I know, everyone got one. That was the other one - we got two cards.
Pro PHP and jQuery
One for jQuery Enlightenment and one for Manning books I think. Yeah, it was mostly uneventful. Got home, grabbed a few hours of sleep, and then right back to work: I actually went to work a couple hours late on Monday but came in feeling all refreshed and jQuerified.
Not everyone got one. There were also other books given away at check in to the first so many people who checked in.
When you say: I share your curiosity. I am trying to get through some jQuery books and none that I have looked at really address this yet.
My next book to read is jQuery In Action. Perhaps that will shed some light. In the mean time, I'm trying to fool around with some ideas very rough that I will present on soon. Well, I've read most of it JQuery in Action and it does not.
The closest I could find to match my need were old books but good books that gave insight into single page application development, these are Ajax in Action and Professional Ajax chapter 5 is a gem. I am currently trying the finite state machine approach to clean my event oriented design, I recommend:. As I found, jQuery Enlightenment was written to express the concepts essential to intermediate and advanced jQuery development.
I am trying to get jquery Enlightenment book having good quality semi-gloss and good the color look. Once i will read it then surely post feedback on this blog. Thanks, I'll have to check that out.
In other words, these two methods make it possible to call a function and at call time change the value of this for the body of the function. But what if you don't want to invoke the function? And instead, you want to change the value of this for the function when it is called in the future? ES5 added bind and this new function method does not invoke a function but instead takes an existing function and from it creates a new function, yet to be called, with a specified value for this inside of the new function.
In other words, JSON. Objects, Arrays, Strings, Numbers, Booleans etc ES will allow trailing commas when defining function parameters or calling a function with arguments. However, calling a function with a comma alone or defining a function parameter as a comma alone will throw a SyntaxError.
Given this change, new updates to the language moving forward would be given the titles ES i. This chapter digs into some of these details.
For example, it can take arrow function syntax and convert it to ES5 syntax. Compiling does not come without caveats. In other words, Babel does not exist so non-standard language features can be bolted on to the language. However, TypeScript views non-standard language updates as a core part of its purpose for existing e.
However, Babel can also be used dynamically at runtime via babel-standalone. Below is a example of using babel-standalone in a web browser via a.
Integration of Babel into a non-Node. NET, ruby-babel-transpiler, php-babel-transpiler, etc. Below is an example of an Object. The babel-polyfill documentation offers the following explanation for polyfill'ing: "You can use new built-ins like Promise or WeakMap, static methods like Array. The polyfill adds to the global scope as well as native prototypes like String in order to do this.
This is why Babel provides the babel-polyfill. Notes: The polyfills used by Babel can be also used as standalone solutions with Node and Web browsers i.
Andrew Cort Aug 26, at 7: Undefined Math Function The last 6 - 7 chapters are really only 1 - 5 pages long each with the bulk of the content in the beginning chapters. My only gripe is that the PDF does not have Bookmarks that allow you to easily navigate from chapter to chapter and sections within each chapter.
